Returning from a morning walk, I spied this sharp-shinned hawk and thought to myself, "It'll be gone by the time you get inside, get the camera out, put the long lens on and get back outside." I was wrong:-)

I put the camera into continuous mode so I'd be ready for any moments of flight and headed back out to find the hawk still perched - I watched and snapped away for several minutes before I was spotted and it dropped off the roof to glide down and across to another. This shot is the moment it first dropped off, and I love how the shadow looks a bit like the logo for the US Postal Service.
