Photo Info
Found at Marconi Station, South Wellfleet MA
That fence was once relatively straight, and that warning sign isn't kidding - the eastern bluff of Cape Cod rises from between 30 to 170 feet above the Atlantic and the erosion is ongoing. This image was made from one of the pair of observation platforms that mark where two of the four Marconi Station towers once stood. It's a long way across the Atlantic before reaching land - from this vantage point, if we were to go directly across the ocean, we'd reach a point just north of the fishing village of La Guardia near the border of Spain and Portugal.
