Man, I'm tired. It's just that time of year - so here's one from a different vault, from my Nikon CoolPix 885 and our summer trip to the beautiful White Mountains of New Hampshire. We had endeavored to hike to the summit of Mount Washington, the highest point in the northeastern USA and at a paltry 6288', site of the worst recorded weather in the world. We were lucky to have a bit of a window in which to accomplish this mission - usually in July the upper reaches of the mountain are socked in with clouds or weather, but we managed to get some clear views during the hike.
I didn't take a GPS reading here, but my estimate is that this shot was taken at about the 5600' mark, after we had rested a bit from the first 3 hours and 3000' or so feet of climbing at the Appalachian Mountain Club hut at Lakes of the Clouds - this rather famous view from Crawford Path on the western flank of Mount Washington is the last view we had before entering the cloud layer for the final push to the top. Mounts Monroe and Franklin rise behind the now miniscule Lakes of the Clouds hut.
