Found at Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary, Sharon MA
A traditional spot for us to stop for a break while hiking the ample grounds of Moose Hill is the old cistern - this area was working farmland many years ago and this large, open stone cylinder was used to collect rainwater for later farm use. While it was bone dry when this image was made, we've seen it with several feet of accumulated water in the past. Here. I was interested in the patterns of cracks and vines covering the inner surface of the cistern, bathed in the afternoon light.
